DADDY LONGLEGS & THE SWAMP DONKEYS

Hot on the hooves of their recent debut single ‘Salty Sea Dog’ (as heard on Double J), the inimitable Daddy Longlegs & the Swamp Donkeys unleash their debut EP ‘Gut Butter’.

Recorded by the shores of the Tumbi Umbi swamp, the 4-piece explored every nook of Magic Cottage Studios, with Ryan Hazell (DMAs, The Fumes, The Drones) saddling up on the Producer throne.

Highlighted by the rambunctious new single ‘Shake You Up’, the 5-track EP is a journey through blues/rock/funk/rambles - led by the howling, leg-swinging, auburn vagabond known as Daddy Longlegs (aka Aaron Houston). He can be heard growling his ‘Gut Butter Blues’ throughout the urban forest, stepping in sync together with his loyal Swamp Donkeys Felix Akurangi (Bass), Jay McKay (Harmonica) and Steve de Wilde (Drums).

Their journey so far has taken them to various festivals and venues throughout the distant corners of Australia, winning the Perisher Peak Festival competition for undiscovered treasure and sold out performances at the Manly Fig, The Shack along with their recent shows as part of The Great Southern Nights Series and festival appearances at Illawarra Folk Festival, Love Culburra Festival and Manly Jazz Festival.

Renowned for their unpredictable and raucous live show, DLSD will put their wagon on the road for 2022 shows.

In the meantime, enjoy their debut EP on vinyl, CD and digital platforms, and keep an ear out for the howling sounds of DLSD as they stomp through a town near you.

ANOUSHA VICTOIRE

Anousha Victoire is a weaver of everyday dreams, stitching together folk/world influenced melodies with bell-over-water clarity of vocal tone. The introspective singer-songwriter blends delicate ideas with a heartaching immediacy. Her trademark fingerpicking folk guitar style and haunting vocal melodies in French and English are complemented by soaring, emotive strings and vocal harmonies, blending into folk storytelling songs that sound like timeless classics. Once they discover her, her fans prove tenacious, if not downright possessive. After a surprise win of her first ABC Music Award (Folk) for one of the very first songs she wrote, she went on to build a loyal local following, as early songs gained indie and ABC radio airplay. Festival credits over the years include the National Folk Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Cresfest, Northern Beaches Music Festival, St Albans Folk Festival, Planet Dungog, Sessionfest, Woodford’s Women Out Front stage, and Wollombi Festival. She has shared the stage with Judy Small, We Mavericks, Mic Conway, Rebecca Barnard, Isabel Rumble, Melanie Horsnell, Gleny Rae Virus, Felicity Dowd, Emmy Ryan, Jhana Allan, Abby Dobson, The Bluehouse, Ember Swift and Penelope Swales. Anousha’s live performance has been described as combining the soaring vocal range of Kate Bush, the melodic pop folk feels of Beth Orton, the fearless feminist fire of Ani Difranco, and the haunting roots melodies of Gillian Welch. Add the dynamism and sparkle of Jamie Pollock’s dazzling violin and harmonies and the show takes flight. Initial EP releases back in early 2000's won recognition, with another ABC Music Award (World Music) for anti-war song Her Love Will Not Return, and airplay of her song on the plight of the last asylum seeker on Nauru with Last Man Standing. She returned to the studio with 2020 full length album Precious Things, and the single Rather Be Your Lover (Than Your Wife) featuring guest bluegrass musicians Gleny Rae and Robbie Long, received airplay on Double J and independent radio. In 2023 she launched EP Embers of the Night produced by Gareth Hudson, with widespread acclaim and airplay on independent radio across Australia and in the UK. Single Mole Creek debuted at #4 on the AMRAP regional charts.

CAP IN HAND

Cap in Hand are Nigel ‘Muddy’ Walters and Dave ‘Fingers’ Spira – a duo who share a common love of the subtle tones and contrasting dynamics of a wide variety of acoustic instruments, which they blend together to produce a refreshing and enchanting mix of songs and tunes…..both old and new.

Nigel sings, plays cello mandolin, dulcimer, guitar, harmonica, spoons and more….and is well known to Australian music lovers through his work over more than a decade with the iconic Wheeze and Suck Band (subsequently reincarnated as Traditional Graffiti).

Dave plays exquisite finger style acoustic guitar in a range of different tunings.

With a repertoire that spans at least six centuries, be prepared for an emotional roller-coaster ride that will take you from the ‘deep and meaningful’ to the ‘light and whimsical.’
